As I read the other thread about a retired item that people would hope to return I remembered my thoughts from just last night about this piece. Now, I totally realize I'm incredibly fortunate to have logged in about a year before the 'retirement-reality' really set in: so, I have an eBay Clothes Press that I use, as well as a MIB one just waiting to sell (on eBay) & begin my daughters college fund! BUT: I have to say that while it IS wonderful to complete a collection, AND that it is a beautiful piece to display like a small bookcase...it is NOT a great doll trunk. We also have AG Sam's, Kirsten's & Molly's and 2 cheaper versions for Bitty's; and, Felicity's is just not that great for clothes. You can't hang them up, and there really is not that much space to fit her outfits. I considered (a non-purist thought ;-( that I should just hang her stuff in Samantha's trunk...I hate wrinkling her precious stuff; but,crammed in a 2 inch shelf is not so great...so, if you are lusting after the Clothes Press, it really does have it's disadvantages!
Unless you're one of those, like me, that appreciates the clothes press for its historical accuracy. Clothes were not hung up until the turn of the 20th century. Folding was the norm, and unless you were super-rich, you only had about three changes of clothes so limited space wasn't a problem.
I have to disagree with Marianne.
I have Felicity's Clothes Press and I LOVE IT!!! It is so accurate and I can fit EVERY OUTFIT of Lissie's in it! Plus all her accessories, shoes, guitar, doll, etc. fit in the drawers. Then I put a couple of larger things on top (Noah's Ark, Basket).
You just can't fit any furniture or Lissie in it (unlike other historical trunks). I think its TERRIFIC for storage, and looks beautiful in any home.
Now that I got the Felicity bed, I wish they still had them. I like it, love the wood and the style!!! But cannot afford it on ebay price. Unless I win the lotto!!!

If AG brings this item back....I'll be getting it. Unless my "boys" get busy and make me one! But, then, I'd like a homemade one and an AG one.
However...I will not be paying eBay prices...no way.
I would really like this item if they brought it back. It would look really nice as a display piece as well as functional storage. But if I am correct, it was very expensive to make. That is why they discontinued it. But it is so lovely.
You know... we should all gather around AG headquaters and do a "Bring Back Felicity's stuff!" rally!!!! [img]wink.gif[/img]
Marianne, thanks for trying to make the rest of us feel better. It's not an item that I'm willing to pay the prices on ebay for, (unlike my Josefina piano purchase), but even that still wasn't as bad in price as the clothes press. It would be nice to have, but I'll find another way to store her clothes till they come out with a reproduction of her reproduction!

Don't get me wrong: of course I love it ( I grew up right outside of Boston: colonial stuff is in my roots!!) In a house full of doll-lovers, Felicity is MY doll & if I didn't have this item, I'm sure I'd be searching away for it. I just wanted to post that it struck me last night as I was playing with it that it seems odd to stuff (gently!!) Felicity's expensive clothes inside...it has been referred to as "The Holy Grail" of items...and, while it is a beautiful piece (as all the trunks are!) IMHO: it has it's 'storage inadequacles' :-)) I'm glad society found it's way to hangers!!
